October 2018 - I joined the West Zion Staff as Senior Pastor in April of 2014. We live in Carstairs and have enjoyed getting to know the community in the last 4 years! I graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree from the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary in 2005 and have previously pastored in three different churches.  My wife Rhonda and I are proud parents of  Samantha, Zachary and Boaz.

October 2018 - Hi, I am Pastor Keith and I would like to share a little about myself and why I pastor at West Zion.  I have been pastoring for about 15 years and serving for over 25 years working with Youth, children and the family.  I have been married since May of 1992 and have two great children, actually, two great young adults, who I am very proud of as they walk with their Lord.  I have a love for the family and hope to see parents empowered to be parents and to be the central influencers in the family and I believe one way of doing that is to have healthy strong marriages.  When children grow up in a home where husband and wife love and respect each other, that will naturally impact our children.  I also realize this is not always easy in our culture and that work is needed to accomplish this.  I know this as even my wife and I have had struggles that we had to work through and are stronger today for it.  To be honest, I have just started being an empty-nester and am continually trying to find ways to spend more time with my wife.  At West Zion, I have the opportunity as Family Pastor to work with children in the following ways:

  • In the weekly children’s ministry called Kids Town on Sunday mornings
  • I get to work with kids in the local schools
  • West Zion hosts and I help lead a soccer camp in the summer
  • A number of us participate with our joint VBS with Bethel Church
  • On occasion, you will see me as a spare bus driver, yes, I can’t get enough of these little guys and gals.

I enjoy the opportunities to come along side of you as parents and serve with you to meet the needs of your kids.  I have a particular passion for youth in and outside the church.  I myself had a difficult childhood and youth life.  I understand what it feels like to be abused, to feel abandoned and to think that no one cares; but, when I was 18, found out that God did care and that He would never abandon me; He brought me into His family.  I love working with teens and am always open and available to meet with them to help them be the best they can be.  Another passion I have is to work with couples; whether it is pre-marital counseling, marriage coaching or pastoral counseling.  I want to see the entire family walking and impacting each other in a positive direction.  This is why I also serve with Family Life of Canada; to help develop strong healthy families.  We emphasize tools like Marriage Mentoring, Together for Good, and Marriage Getaway Weekends; all of these tools we use at West Zion.  I attended Briercrest Family of Schools where I received my bachelor’s degree and my Master of Divinity in Pastoral counselling with a particular interest in Marriage and Family.  I consider myself an Alberta boy as I have spent most of my life in Alberta and have been in Carstairs since 2015 and have found this home, this is where I want to serve as I love the people here.
